Zig Studio and Zaga Mantra, Genesis and The Trinity: Jamie Brown

By Kenneth L. Sublett

The Lord God: the use of Elohim in Genesis 1:1 does not mean that God is three persons. While God reveals His triune Being by creating a triune man in His own image, He is not three persons or gods. Because the Catholic Trinity view can never make sense to anyone, the laity is silenced by the claim that it is a "mystery" and it is not intended to be understood! Boles: The Holy Spirit was present in the beginning... the plural means that there was a plurality (majority) of divine beings. Boles, H. Leo, The Holy Spirit, Gospel Advocate, P.22

However, in order to make this word have meaning it is claimed that God said:

"'Hear O Israel: the Lord our God is one Lord! (Deut. 6:4). The proper translation should be: The Lord our Gods is a united Lord". "That Elohim means 'Gods' is further substantiated in Genesis 1:26" (Henry H. Ness, Dunamis and the Church, p. 7,8).

The Lord is not the Lord our gods but He is Lord God. The term Lord God is used over and over to show this connection.

Elohim would make the verse translate: "In the beginning the gods created." This is clearly the understanding. However, the whole story will prove that Jehovah is the only El or the Lord God. Spirit does not speak of a person. If it did then the Spirit was created by God. For a fuller discussion Click Here.

Another view states that:

"The most frequently used Hebrew word in the O.T. which is translated "God" the word "Elohim". This is the word used in the first verse of the Bible: "in the beginning God (Elohim) created the heavens and the earth" (Gen.1:1_. ; The word "Elohim" is uni-plural (such as the word "cluster"), which implies plurality in unity. Thus the Trinity of the Godhead is implied in the very first verse of the Bible (and throughout the O.T.) by the very title "God".

However, the only True Elohim is Jehovah Who is our Lord God:

BLESS the Lord, O my soul. O Lord (Jehovah) my God (Elohim), thou art very great; thou art clothed with honour and majesty. Ps 104:1

Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings (flutters) of the wind (spirit) : Ps 104:3

Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: Ps 104:2

Who maketh his angels spirits (wind); his ministers a flaming fire: Ps.104:4

Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed for ever. Ps 104:5

Thou coveredst it with the deep as with a garment: the waters stood above the mountains. Ps 104:6

At thy rebuke they fled; at the voice of thy thunder they hasted away. Ps 104:7

Jehovah is the true and living Elohim:

But the Lord (Jehovah) is the true God (Elohim), he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation. Je 10:10

Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods (several or elohim) that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens. Je 10:11

He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion. Je 10:12

When he thunders, the waters in the heavens roar; he makes clouds rise from the ends of the earth. He sends lightning with the rain and brings out the wind (spirit) from his storehouses. Je.10:13

Isaiah said the the Lord and God is Lord God:

For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else. Is.45:18

(Notice the common pattern, that the Lord spoke of God even as He swears by Himself because there is none other.)

And John confirms:

The "Word" is God manifesting Himself in spoken and applied knowledge. Because we were made in God's image, we can visualize Him by knowing that our word and our self are two modes of the same physical manifestations:

IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Jn 1:1

The same was in the beginning with God. Jn 1:2

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. Jn 1:3

In him was life; and the life was the light of men. Jn 1:4

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. Jn 1:5

God's life and light were in Him but they were not separate persons. When the invisible God, who has life with and in Him, is made visible or shines we see the image of the invisible Lord God. However, the beam of light which goes from invisible to being visible is not two separate things but two states of the one light wave.

And Elijah came unto all the people, and said, How long halt ye between two opinions? if the Lord (Jehovah) be God (Elohim), follow him: but if Baal, then follow him. And the people answered him not a word. 1 Kings 18:21

One shall say, I am the Lords; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the Lord (Jehovah), and surname himself by the name of Israel. Isa 44:5

Thus saith

the Lord (Jehovah)

the King of Israel,

and

his redeemer the Lord of hosts;

I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. Isa 44:6

Declare what is to be, present it--let them take counsel together. Who foretold this long ago, who declared it from the distant past? Was it not I, the LORD? And there is no God apart from me, a righteous (1) God (elohim) and a (2) Savior; there is none but (3) me. Isa 45:21

Savior is Jesus or Joshua or Jehovah- Saves:

Yasha (g3467) yaw-shah'; a prim. root; prop. to be open, wide or free, i. e. (by impl.) to be safe; causat. to free or succor: - * at all, avenging, defend, deliver (-er), help, preserve, rescue, be safe, bring (having) salvation, save (-iour), get victory.

Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass. Zec.9:9

GOD is the invisible Deity: Lord is the ruler. They are not TWO GODS.

That is, there was no other el scattered out beside Him.

Many Els or Elohim but only One Jehovah

But the Lord (One Jehovah) is the (1) true God (elohim), he is the (2) living God, and an (2) everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble (like wind-blown grain), and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation. Je.10:10

Jesus is the Christ or Jesus Christ. He is Lord and God or Lord God. He is Father, Son and Spirit or Lord Jesus Christ: three terms One Name:

And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. Jn 20:28

Thus shall ye say unto them, The god (plural Els or Elohim) that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens. Je 10:11

And Paul Confirms:

To Titus, mine own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour. Tit 1:4

When Thomas touched the risen Jesus there were not TWO persons in his presence when he grasp that Jesus was bott Lord AND God:

And Thomas answered and said unto him,

My Lord

and

my God. Jn.20:28

As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one. 1Co 8:4

For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,) 1Co.8:5

But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him. 1Co 8:6

For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Ju.1:4

This does not add up as our body, soul and spirit do not add up: they are the one and the same. Therefore, the one Lord and one God is Lord God.

Because man is made in the image of God, my thought or spirit is the Father of all of my actions. It is the interior of whom all things happen.

However, my arms and legs are the by whom all things get done. My speech, sight and hearing are the mediators of communication which takes place.

In another fragment, we will show that a common expression for God in the Old Testament is Lord God to show that He is the One true El out of all of the thousands of Elohim.

The Ante-Nicene fathers as well as the leaders of the American Restoration Movement agreed. For the view of the Ante-Nicene Fathers Click Here.
