Hip Hop Artist - Learn To Dance Hip Hop

By Farah Fan

Do you want to learn how to dance like your favorite hip hop artist? Are you a big fan of the hip hop industry? Do you sometime dress the same style as your beloved hip hop artist? Think of learning how to dance hip hop as an excellent way to combine meeting friends with getting fit.

With some practice, you can do dancing the Harlem shake, moonwalk as well as heel toe with the best of them. Hip hop dance steps aren't difficult to learn, but they do take concentrated practice to perfect. It's one thing to learn the individual moves, but it's a whole other thing to combine hip hop dance movements together for a routine or entire dance can be challenging.

Hip Hop music and dance constantly change and evolve, which means you can start inventing new hip hop dance moves. To make your own moves, you have to first be a good hip hop dancer with a sense of the steps that already exist. Experience with other types of dance can also be useful in bringing new moves to the floor. Once you learn how to dance hip hop, create your own moves then you will combine the dance moves. So, you've learned a few hip hop dance moves and invented some moves yourself. You can learn how to dance hip hop by enrolling yourself in a dance studio, joining your hip hop cardio class in the gym or you can purchase a hip hop dance tape. Either way, you will have to decide which you will select. Once you have selected your choice of learning material you will have to set a schedule for the class and practice time. Dancing with a group is better than dancing alone, so if you decided to buy a hip hop video take ask your friends to join you.

Once you are comfortable with the dance moves try to master the counts. Dance counts are always 1 through 8. An instructor may explain a movement they are teaching by saying that this step or movement takes four 8 counts. Watch how good hip hop dancers move, and concentrate on how they do their dance steps. As well as looking at their feet, which is the most important element of hip hop, also pay attention to their arm, face and body movements because the final dance effect is a coordinated whole.

Pretend that you are your favorite hip hop artist and practice each dance movement with passion. Start with an easy piece, and focus on learning the dance steps. Repeat a sequence till you can do it perfectly, then move on to a more difficult hip hop step. Create your own hip hop dance steps. Once you can perform the regular hip hop dance steps well, be creative and start to develop your own moves. Mix it all together to make the individual hip hop movements flow into a hip hop dance routine. You know your steps, you know which movement takes place on what dance counts and you know which counts apply to which music beats.
