Sugarloaf Mountain in Rio de Janeiro is one of two sights that each traveller to Brazil needs to visit. Recognized in Portuguese as Pao de Acucar, this massive cone sized rock made out of granite stands 395 meters over the ocean. On a clear day, you will experience amazing views of the beaches and high-rise apartments from Copacabana to Ipanema, across Guanabara Bay to Niteroi, downtown, and inland to the sultry wooded mountain ranges consisting of christ the redeemer figurine on corcovado.

In order to reach the summit, you need to take a 2 phase aerial cable car that departs from Praia Vermelha each 15 minutes and makes its initial stop at Morro da Urca. Urca affords pleasant vistas of the coastline and contains outdoor bars, dinning and an amphitheater. There's a wonderful paved nature pathway that is certainly worthy of strolling to see the tropical plant life, wild birds and the unexpected monkey.

The second level airborne cable car departs every thirty minutes from Urca and takes you to the top of Sugar Loaf. From here you'll get just about the most wonderful views of Rio de Janeiro apartments and beaches second only to those from Christ the Redeemer. You will be able to stroll to a few different levels and locations for a assortment of picturesque vantage points. There's little Kiosks that offer soft drinks, frozen treats and other snacks.

Looking towards Praia Vermelha you will notice 700 ft Morro do Leme that stands at the upper end of Copacabana Beach. On another day make the nature hike up to the eighteenth century fort and enjoy additional beautiful vistas of Rio de Janeiro, Copacabana beaches and flats.
